Sam graduated from the University of Bristol in 2008 and spent a year in general practice before embarking on two internships also at the University of Bristol. The first was a rotating internship with a particular focus on surgery; this was followed by an anaesthesia and pain management internship with a bias towards surgical cases.
Following a period of locum work, Sam completed the BSAVA certificate in Small Animal Surgery, with distinction, while working in a busy hospital environment. Sam joined Bath Vet Referrals in 2017 and became the senior surgeon in 2021. She has a particular interest in BOAS surgery, surgery of the head and neck, laparoscopic surgery, advanced abdominal procedures, wound management and thoracic surgery.
Sam is midway through a Masters in Clinical Veterinary Research; her research topic is "Comparison of haemostatic effects of topical xylometazoline and adrenaline in brachycephalic dogs undergoing nares surgery”.
